What a certificate covers

A ForgeCertify certificate is tied to a specific, immutable run. It states:

  • Kernel name and version
The exact software version tested — not "current" or "latest"
  • Build fingerprint
SHA-256 hash of the kernel binary or Python package at test time
  • OS and architecture
    macOS 14 / Apple Silicon, Ubuntu 22.04 / x86_64, etc.
  • Test suite version
Which version of ForgeCertify ran — suite changes are versioned
  • Pass / skip / fail counts
Per category, with skip reasons (missing capability vs. actual failure)
  • Ed25519 signature
The result JSON is signed — tampering is detectable

Submission process

1

Run the suite locally

Install the runner, run against your kernel. The runner produces a cert-result-YYYY-MM-DD.json file signed with your machine's ephemeral key.

2

Email your result file

Send the JSON to forgecertify@skyfireworks.io with your kernel name, version, and the certificate tier you want.

3

We verify the run

We validate the result file's signature chain, check the test suite version, and confirm the pass/fail counts are consistent. We may ask for a witnessed re-run for Enterprise tier.

4

Published & certified

Results are added to the public ledger. Your certificate (PDF + JSON) is issued within 5 business days. Standard tier: 10 business days.

Free for open-source kernels. If your kernel is MIT/Apache/GPL licensed and publicly available, Standard Certification is free. Email us with a link to the repository.
